Artist Statement
My women’s and men’s wearable art and home decor is handcrafted of polymer clay and many pieces are inspired by unique, rare and exquisite stamps from over eighty countries around the world. These inspirational postage stamps are chosen for their artistry and historical significance and many are over forty years old from countries no longer in existence. These humble seals that convey our messages around the world are miniature masterpieces celebrating romantic destinations and historic places, traditional folkways, the humor of humanity and the beauty of nature.
I create each piece from hand-mixed colored clays and using a variety of techniques including carving, etching, the intricate Venetian Millefiore cane work and imitative techniques to create ivory, amber. jade and turquoise. Most pieces feature the inspirational stamp as part of or hidden in the design. Pieces include:
- Treasure Box Pendants with a 5″x7″ display
- Miniature Books that can be worn as pins
- Wall Vases that hold fresh flowers or dried arrangements
- Ancient Etched Pins
- Art masterpiece Necklaces
- Imitative ivory Switch plate Covers
- Full-size clay Journals
- Ethnic Figurines
- Boxes
The inspirations of the past ignite my imagination to create art in the 20th and 21st centuries. I enjoy sharing my love of creating with clay techniques and teach many workshops across the country and in France. Workshops range from one day to five days and are usually focused on a theme or series of clay techniques. Please contact me for information about my artwork and my current teaching schedule.
Hi Dayle,
My mom and I spent several years attending Bay Area art & wine festivals, happily buying your gorgeous postage stamp jewelry. I also own 1 piece of wearable art in polymer clay that’s beautiful (it opens like a little greeting card with a stamp from San Marino involved).
My question is this: have you completely stopped producing the postage stamp jewelry?
Thanks,
Marja
Your shoe brooches are AMAZING! I am new to polymer clay and love your inspiration.
Thank you.
Doyle. Hello! I love that you hung your polymer ‘charms’ and hung them beautifully. Great idea! I hope you are well…xoxoxoJane
Jane so nice to hear from you! Yep I like to look at them and also reminds me to wear them!!
Hi Dayle,
I just had to write you. I just saw that you either have a DVD or a new book out on the Cloth, Paper, Scissors email I just read. Wow,,,,you have come so far. I’m thrilled that you are so committed to your art. Now,,,,,,what’s this about your new address? Largo Florida (as in the Keyes)? At least you’re closer to me living in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Are you doing any kind of teaching around me , or in Florida? I want to read more about you so, I’ll keep this short, but if you have any time, I’d love to from you. I’m almost 80!!!!!!!!, older, wiser, better, and glad to be vertical, plus still creating what I want to create. Hugs,
Lynn- so good to hear from you- what a great surprise. Send me your personal email and we will catch up!! dayledoroshow@hotmail.com
HI Dayle
I have a question I in your workshop on DVD. You mention transfer of clip art to clay, using an inkjet printer. I printed two clip art and placed them on a white clay and as shown. set them overnight and in the morning gently removed and there was no transfer What did I do wrong?
Thank You
Earl
Hi Earl, thanks for contacting me. I mentioned using a photocopier that uses dry carbon toner- the kind of photocopy machine that use to be the norm. I’m sorry but inkjet won’t work at all. If you email me I’ll explain further! Dayle
